"Often a photograph can let us see the landscape in a way that we cannot with our own eyes. This moment that has been frozen in time was witnessed by few, sometimes only me. It will probably never be revealed the same again, the landscapes will change, as will the light and elements that create the emotion in the picture. It is this that drives my passion for photography"
Richard Young was born in rural Sussex, England. His passion for photography was kindled during his first visit to New Zealand, where he now lives. He enjoys spending time tramping and climbing in remote and wild places, capturing these beautiful landscapes for others to appreciate. He believes these images are important in this increasingly urban world where, regrettably, we spend less time in awe-inspiring, natural and unspoilt places.
Richard Young's Photography has been shown across New Zealand, His recent Exhibition "Alpine Light" displayed as a sole exhibition at Bay Gallery, Plimmerton and as part of the 2010 New Zealand Mountain Film Festival in Wanaka. Prints have also been exhibited in America and Canada. His photography has been recognised and awarded in numerous competitions both within New Zealand and internationally, including recent award of "Best Landscape Photograph" at the 2010 Banff Mountain Photography Competition in Canada.
Richard Young captures his photography on both film and digital, always being drawn back to the beauty and quality of image exposed on to film. His work sells as archival quality fine art prints. Images are also available under licence for commercial use. If you cannot find what you are looking for on the site, please enquire as there is a large selection of images that are not exhibited. Richard Young is also available for commissioned work.
